Why I Made Shot Sheets...

About the Creator The Mission

Bridging the Gap Between Clinical Instruction and Patient Reality

For nearly a decade serving as a Physician Assistant in Endocrinology, I witnessed a recurring disconnect in diabetes management: the gap between a prescribed insulin regimen and a patient’s ability to execute it safely at home.

The inspiration for the Shot Sheet Generator began with a single patient interaction. Early in my career, a patient with uncontrolled diabetes handed me her glucose logs. Despite her best efforts, we realized she was inaccurately dosing her correction scale. When asked how she arrived at her numbers, she bravely admitted she was "guessing."

The Real Barrier: Numeracy

I realized that her struggle wasn't a lack of discipline; it was a barrier of numeracy. Standard adjustable insulin scales typically require patients to interpret ranges and perform calculations. For many—due to language barriers, literacy levels, or simply the stress of managing a chronic illness—this math becomes a dangerous obstacle.

The Solution: Simplicity by Design

The solution came from an unexpected place: a simple kitchen conversion chart. I realized that just as a cook uses a reference chart to convert measurements without doing the math, my patients needed a direct reference tool for their insulin.

The Shot Sheet Generator was created to replace calculation with clarity. It allows medical providers to generate highly customizable, clear, and specific dosing guides (Shot Sheets™). By removing the burden of math, we empower patients to dose with confidence.

Our Goal

My mission is to support colleagues in practicing safer, more equitable healthcare. By ensuring that every patient—regardless of their numeracy or literacy level—has access to instructions they can understand, we turn complex treatment plans into successful outcomes.

No math. No confusion.

Just accurate, easy guidance.

Why Shot Sheets™ Become a Practice Staple

Efficiency Meets Customization

In my own practice, Shot Sheets™ are indispensable. While I maintain a core library of common templates for speed, the tool offers full flexibility to customize formulas on the fly. This agility is crucial; if a patient faces an acute illness or requires steroids, I can instantly generate and email an adjusted sheet to manage their short-term needs safely.

Streamlining the Exam Room

Implementing this tool drastically reduces the time spent explaining complex math in the exam room. More importantly, it minimizes the margin of error. It relieves the provider’s burden of "correcting corrections" and offers the peace of mind that the patient has a failsafe guide to execute their regimen.

Bridging the Understanding Gap For providers with deep medical knowledge, the complexity of sliding scales is easy to overlook. Shot Sheets™ bridge that gap. They empower patients navigating numeracy, literacy, language, or learning challenges to manage their health effectively.

The result is a "win-win": you save hours of clinical time, and your patients gain the clarity they need. As one patient told me, “This is what I've always needed! Now I know how much insulin to take.”

My hope is Shot Sheets™ will change your practice and help you, the provider, and your patients by simplifying sliding scale insulin.

Kat Ingram

I’m Kat, a software developer building healthcare technology solutions since 2021. As a full-stack developer, I’ve spent my career working at the intersection of technology and patient care, developing tools that make healthcare providers’ jobs easier.

Based in Greenville, South Carolina, I love what I do because it gives me the freedom to work from anywhere—whether that’s from my home office or while traveling to new destinations. When I’m not coding, you’ll find me staying active—running, swimming, or hiking, exploring different cities, and hunting down the best food in town.

I believe the best technology is the kind you barely notice because it just works. That’s what I aimed for while working on Shot Sheets: a straightforward, accurate tool that fits seamlessly into busy clinical workflows.
